6 Week Hand Building Workshop

Led by Sarah

Tuesdays at 6 pm starting Feb 18th

Discover the art of pottery in our 6-week Hand Building Workshop, designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Join us for a hands-on experience where you'll learn the foundational techniques of creating pottery and ceramic sculpture by hand.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Clay Preparation: Learn how to properly wedge and prepare your clay, it’s like kneading except opposite.

  • Pinch Pots: One of the oldest forms of pottery, the pinch pot technique is exactly like it sounds - using our fingers to mold and shape the clay.

  • Slab Technique: Learn how to use the slab roller to create a sheet of clay that can be used in various ways from cutting pieces to construct a clay box to draping over slump molds.

  • Coil Pots: Another ancient technique for working with clay! We will roll clay coils and use them to construct pottery. This class will include a larger coil pot project.

  • Glazing: You’ll have the opportunity to use our full glaze palate and learn different techniques of getting the glaze onto the pot as well as embellishing and layering.

  • Firing Process: We won’t get too far into kilns in a beginner workshop, but you will learn a bit about kilns and firing temperatures and how the process works.

What You’ll Take Home:

By the end of the 6-week workshop, you’ll have a collection of your very own handmade ceramic pieces, each uniquely crafted by you. You will also have the skills to join Dame Errant as a member if you wish and continue your ceramic journey!
